夏菁，是盛志澄的笔名，1925年生于浙江嘉兴．美国科罗拉多州立大学硕士，曾任联合国专家及科罗拉多教授等职。夏菁是台湾 “蓝星诗社” 创始人之一。自1954年 出版第一本诗集起，已有九种，包括近年出版的《雪岭》(2003)和《夏菁短诗选》(2004)等。

Hsia Ching, the pen name of Ted (Tse) C. Sheng, was born in Zhejiang, China in 1925. He received his M.S. degree from the Colorado State University (1966) and has worked with the United Nations and taught at the Colorado State University. Hsia Ching was one of the founders of the Blue Stars Poetry Society in Taiwan in early Fifties. Since his first collection of poems published in 1954, he has produced a total of nine volumes of poems including the recent two: A Snow-capped Peak (2003) and Selected Poems of Hsia Ching (2004).

Catastrophes in a Minute

山摇地撼
石破天惊
这瞬间的板块移位
使全球震骇、上苍落泪

母亲舍命救女婴
留言：记住，我爱你
学童截肢保性命
哀求：留只写字的右手
如此凄惨的一幕幕
不忍想，也不忍睹

面对大自然的浩劫
无法予告，感到无奈
我们虽然常常自豪
一秒钟可以计算几万兆

不忍想，也不忍睹
这致命的三天已过
在我们血浓于水的内心
无时无刻不在关怀
这些日渐微弱的呻吟
虽在千里以外

Mountains swaying, earth swinging
Rocks shattering and sky shaking
Only in a minute, the crushed earth plates 
Made entire world alarming and heaven weeping

Shielding an infant daughter, a dead mother 
Left a note: Do remember, I love you
A school boy was being saved by amputation
Who begged: Keep my right hand for writing
So sadly, one scene after another
I could not bear to watch, let alone thinking

Facing this magnitude of catastrophe
There was no warning. We felt helpless
Though we are always proud of our speed 
Of calculation, hundred million times a second

I could not bear to watch, let alone thinking
The Deadly-three-days have now passed
Yet, in our heart, blood is thicker than water
Not a minute has passed without caring 
About the gradually diminished groaning
Although they are thousand miles away
